The process
What to expect from therapy sessions
At Dr Compton-Smith Clinical Psychology, we take a collaborative approach to therapy, working with you to determine the focus and goals. As clinical psychologists, we are trained in a multitude of therapeutic approaches and can work integratively with you based on your wishes and needs. We work with both adults and young people with a variety of difficulties or differences and can offer both short-term and long-term therapy. Some people choose to focus on the “here and now”, whereas others prefer to delve deeper into the past to understand the origins of their difficulties.
Therapy sessions last for one hour. The number of sessions will be guided by you and your goals. Some people may only want a short number of sessions to focus on a specific goal, whereas others may prefer to engage in longer term therapy. We recommend regular reviews within therapy sessions to ensure we are still working towards your goals.
Crisis support
Please note we are unable to offer a crisis service, which means we cannot support people who are currently suicidal or engaging in serious self-harm. This is because in such cases, crisis team and/or multidisciplinary team support is needed.
